What first inspired you to get into photography?
"Nothing in particular inspired me into photography. I just remember from an early age that I used to love taking pictures. I come from a big family, money was tight & getting pictures developed back in those days was expensive. So I had to fight my brothers & sister in order to get hold of the camera. Haha. I remember buying 135mm film with my birthday money when I was about 11 and I'd take pictures of our pet dog. She was my first subject to pose for me."
Who are your fashion icons?
"I used to love watching Madonna evolve as an artist, visually. I still do. She paved the way for many artists of today. I find the whole Gaga/Madonna comparison very boring. Lady GaGa is obviously inspired by Madonna, but that's what artist do! Inspire each other. Cyndi Lauper is another one. She inspired me to dye my hair multi-colours, as a kid. I'm no better these days. I had blue hair towards the end of 2011 and I started the new year platinum blonde. Haha."
Would you say you have a certain 'muse' or someone you particularly enjoy photographing?
"Definitely. Jacqualine Rose. We met over a year ago and have since created many photographs together. She's not scared to experiment, and she will do ANYTHING to get that perfect shot. Plus, she can look different with every shoot. She's so versatile. She embodies the phrase SUPER model."
Do you like to experiment with different camera techniques or use things such as props when photographing your models?
"I'm always changing my techniques. Not intentionally. I just like many styles of photography. We make most of our own props for shots, so most of the stuff you see is unique."
Who would be your dream person to do a photoshoot with?
"Hmm? A lot of people ask me that question and I can never really give a straight-forward answer. There's so many I'd like to shoot. Cate Blanchett. I think she's so pretty. Nicole Kidman too. I'm attracted to the red heads for some reason? I think it's their porcelain complexion. I love pale ladies."
Which photographers do you find inspiring?
"George Hurrell and Guy Bourdin. Hurrell for his Old Hollywood portraits. He knew how to light his subjects. I use his light set-up a lot, actually. And Bourdin for his unusual composed shots. His vision was SO ahead of his time. It still is today."
What advice would you give to any aspiring photographers?
"Practise, practise & experiment. Absorb everything along the way. And just have fun. You see some photographers really grouchy on shoots. You don't get the best out of your models by being a misery. I approach my shoots in a fun way. You'll often see me dancing in the middle of Liverpool City Centre with models I've only just met. Haha. Relax. Create art & have fun in the process. The day I stop having fun is the day I hang up my camera."
